What to Consider Before Getting Emsculpt

With Emsculpt body contouring becoming more and more popular, you may have questioned if this innovative treatment could actually help you achieve your health and fitness goals. Whether you want to kick off a new fitness routine or target stubborn muscle groups that don’t seem to be responding to your workouts, Emsculpt may be able to help. The best part? This treatment requires zero downtime. Here’s a little bit more information about how Emsculpt works, what it feels like, and what to consider before committing to the treatment.

What Is Emsculpt?

Emsculpt is an FDA-approved device that helps patients build muscle using High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology. This technology induces deep muscle contractions called “supramaximal” contractions, which doesn’t affect the skin. The sessions last 30 minutes and the targeted muscles are contracted around 20,000 times, far beyond what the body can do on its own.

How Is Emsculpt Different?

Emsculpt is unique because of the contractions the machine produces. These contractions are what strengthen muscles. This is a great way to not only build strength, but also improve posture around joints, which can help reduce pain. Emsculpt can even be used alongside physical therapy to help further strengthen certain muscle groups after an injury. These are the main attributes that set Emsculpt apart from other body contouring methods like CoolSculpting and laser treatments, which are designed to only target fat burning.

Emsculpt can also be used as an alternative to invasive procedures for those who don’t want to go under anesthesia or have a long recovery period. More and more patients are choosing non-invasive treatments like Emsculpt instead of liposuction or butt implants. It not only requires much less time before, during, and after treatments, but it also poses very little risk of side effects or damage.

How Much of a Commitment is Emsculpt?

A full Emsculpt treatment plan normally consists of 4 sessions that are spread out over 2 weeks. Individual treatments can take place 2 to 3 days apart. Because there is no downtime required after a treatment, patients are able to schedule appointments anytime during the day and can return to their normal activities afterward.

Are There Side Effects Associated with Emsculpt?

Because Emsculpt is a completely non-invasive treatment, there is very little risk of side effects. The most common “side effect” patients mention is muscle soreness, which feels similar to how you might feel after a strenuous workout. Over time, though, the Emsculpt treatment will help alleviate this soreness by helping flush the lactic acid out of the body.

While there is little risk of side effects associated with Emsculpt, this treatment is not for everyone. One thing you should note, because the Emsculpt machine uses HIFEM technology, patients that have implanted medical devices or metal pieces (like a pacemaker or plates) should not go through this treatment. It is also not recommended for women who are pregnant or have a metal-based IUD, like a copper IUD.

Is Emsculpt Permanent?

Emsculpt is not permanent but there many ways you can maximize your results. Many patients begin to see results after their very first Emsculpt treatment, with gradual improvements for up to 6 months after completing their full recommended treatment regimen. Emsculpt is a great way to boost a fitness routine or help build a foundation for a regular exercise program. Those who consistently exercise the muscle groups targeted by Emsculpt treatments will see the longest-lasting results. It is also recommended to schedule follow-up sessions.
